Feature Film

My first film appearance was in 1991 as an extra in SALT ON OUR SKIN, which was shot in Glasgow. I had a great time marching around with Vincent D'Onofrio (of Full Metal Jacket fame!) and like to think I helped him along with his Scottish accent for the movie! Co-starring Greta Scacchi the film was released as DESIRE in the USA. I managed to make it to the film poster though! See below!

Next up was more extra work on THE BRUCE, a low budget historical epic filmed near Peebles. Really enjoyed this and worked on it for a week playing various Scots and English foot soldiers and spent time watching the likes of Brian Blessed and Oliver Reed work was fascinating and I learned a lot of basic stage combat and how to take down a charging horse!

Around about the same time I had been put in touch with Bobby Carlyle at Raindog Theatre Company and managed to land another 'fighting extra' role on the fabulous TRAINSPOTTING and had a raucous time battling in the Crosslands Bar in Queen Margaret Drive and got to hang out with the stellar cast. Bobby was very gracious and gave me some great advice and I am eternally grateful to him and John Murtagh, as well as Freddie Young and Dorothy Paul for giving me a start in the business.

In 1996 I landed the wonderful part of Tambo in Irvine Welsh's THE GRANTON STAR CAUSE and revelled in the role of a flash Sunday League striker who is teetotal and steals Boab Coyle's girlfriend..shortly before he meets God and get's turned into a fly! Having been a huge fan of the book I was delighted to join an excellent cast and to work with Irvine himself. I reprised my role in A SOFT TOUCH but never made the final edit but the film was released in it's entirety as THE ACID HOUSE and quickly became a cult movie. This was Paul McGuigan's first feature and great to work with him.

The same year I was cast as Michael Palmer in Scottish film noir FRANK'S UTILITY CONE CLICKS with principal photography in various fabulous Lanarkshire locations and featured me speeding around in the lotus from tv series THE PRISONER. The cast included Gareth Thomas of BLAKES 7 fame but filming was never completed and I'd love to go back to it at some stage!

1997 saw the arrival of Charlie Sheen (of Platoon fame) in Glasgow for a film called OBIT and I returned from holiday to find urgent messages from my agent that I had landed a role in it! Next day I was in costume and on set at Glasgow University playing Beverley's Boyfriend as he kisses her goodbye before she is kidnapped! My first USA feature film and was fun to work with director Albert Pyun on a film later released as POSTMORTEM with a great supporting Scottish cast!

In 2003 I played a cameo role in another cult classic, THE FOOTBALL FACTORY as a Scouser who attacks the Chelsea mob as they arrive in Liverpool. Again I was a huge fan of the book and really enjoyed the hail of bottles as they smashed all around us as we filmed at London's city airport. Great cast and crew and nice to work with the likes of Nick Love, Frank Harper and Danny Dyer.

In 2009 I played another fun cameo in Carter Ferguson's FAST ROMANCE a great feelgood film set in Glasgow, featuring a host of Scottish film & tv faces and was a pleasure to work on. Having worked with Carter and crew a few times I was delighted to help out and the film was released in Cineworld cinemas countrywide. A low-budget success story! I played a potential suitor of Nadine who is quickly exiting stage right!

In 2010 I played my first movie lead role, as Rab in A SPANKING IN PARADISE and decanted to Leith to shoot this indie gem. Playing the owner of a brothel and dark comedy was superb fun and the script by Wayne Thallon was true to life and hysterically funny. The film was tough going but I adored every second of making it and was delighted when it won 2 awards at the Edinburgh Film Festival and was then released in the USA to great acclaim. We are still awaiting a UK release however...!

2011 saw another movie cameo as CS Carlisle in Silly Wee Film's first feature NIGHT IS DAY. I was pleased to appear in this film with Elaine C Smith & Colin McCredie as it was ultra low-budget and I like to support young & upcoming directors and film companies. I have since worked with these guys on several shorts and corporate films and have fun every time!

After a 'film hiatus' of 4 years I played Mark in another Scottish feature, WIGILIA, set in Glasgow and directed by Graham Drysdale. Another lovely cast including BMX Bandits supremo Duglas T Stewart. It follows the traditional Polish feast on Christmas Eve when an extra place at the table is placed should an unknown wandering pilgrim arrive. I play a successful but dastardly brother of "the Pilgrim.'

Also in 2015 I was cast as Sam in another Scottish film, CLEEK which was shot in and around the atmospheric Paisley and features another excellent cast and crew and loved every second of being on this set. My character is an aged lothario and seemingly the only friend of the lead, Jacob Cleek, but all is not what it seems in this murderous and dark Scottish thriller directed by Gary Hewitt.

2015 also saw a cameo appearance in director Andy Sherlow's BOLANDER GREEN SOCIETY which was filmed in Glasgow's West End and set in the University. I played Professor Murdock who sets the group out on a Highland adventure in the film which is set for release in the summer of 2016.

And late in 2015 I played Vinnie in Douglas Sannachan's brilliant Scottish comedy STARCACHE, joining a brilliant Scottish cast and had great fun on this shoot in some brilliant locations, belting around  the countryside frightening the locals in my suped-up 'nedmobile' and looking forward to the release.

Having auditioned for a few roles I was delighted to have a part written for me in Simon Baker's second feature, 90 MINUTES in April 2016. Set at the Hackney Marshes, London it follows the league decider for these Sunday League teams. I play Ronnie, the assistant manager of Forrest Road Fc and great fun with a brilliant cast and crew and fab to be back in Hackney where I used to play for Birkbeck University many years ago! My dialogue was all improvised and loved working with these guys and looking forward to doing so again in future projects. The film will be out in 2017.
